Travel Thursday: Part V- New Orleans⚜️

There is one place that steals a bit of my heart every time that I go, it’s like the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland. You go following the white rabbit, because you want to know where it’s going. Eventually you start finding one interesting thing after the other, that you forget what you were chasing and enjoy the journey.

Let’s start from the beginning, the first meal I had when getting to New Orleans was right in the middle of the street. When you see a BBQ pit and a line of people, you don’t question it. You just go. I wish I could remember the name of their business, but I could tell it is family owned. Look for the Jamaican flags and a BBQ pit. You can’t miss it. If you love food with a kick (like I do) order the Jamaican Sausage with Crack n’ Cheese.

PO Boys are a must when in New Orleans the Shrimp PO Boy is from Daisy Dukes express, and if you want to try the Pork Belly PO Boy you’ll really have to go down the rabbit hole. This place is hidden behind a bar that doesn’t have a sign of the restaurant outside. I could tell you where it is, but what would be the fun of that? The point of going somewhere new is getting lost, and discovering new places as you make it to your destination.

The Camellia Grill is the definition of southern hospitality. You feel it as soon as your welcomed in, and smell their delicious food.

What gets more southern than a buttered pecan pie with blue bell ice cream on top? Nothing. If you don’t go on your next visit to New Orleans, you’ll really be missing out. I loved the place so much I decided to buy the shirt, and do a photoshoot with it on.

Not in the mood for a full meal, but more like a good coffee and some good conversation? Maybe even a donut?

District Donuts is the place. I haven’t had any donuts like theirs. I know what y’all are thinking, how can you say that when we have Shipley’s?

That’s why! Look at these donuts! They have flavors that are so delicious they’ll make you want to drive hours to get to them. My absolute favorite is the blueberry cheesecake donut. I can’t promise you they’ll have that flavor when you go, because they change their flavors daily. Makes it even more exciting to try.

Want to feel luxurious while drinking champagne, or a white lady (cocktail)? Then, head over to The Monteleone. This beautiful hotel is home to a carousel bar. It’s something you must experience, and although seating is limited on the carousel bar it is worth the wait. Also, if you are looking for some paranormal experiences while in New Orleans make sure to ask your bartender for some personal experiences while working there. I’m sure they’ll have some good ones.

Walk around the French Quarter to look at window displays that show you inside Art and Fashion studios, or for the ultimate bad ass girl gang feel step into a boutique named Miette on Magazine St. (near district donuts). You will find items I haven’t seen anywhere else, and to be honest it’s awesome to just be in there. They have awesome home decor, and accessories. A lot of locally made jewelry, so if you’re looking for a meaningful and unique souvenir stop here.

Other places to visit in New Orleans…

  • Tabasco Store
  • Cafe Du Monde
  • Marie Laveau’s Voodoo Shop (If you’re into that)
  • The Ruby Slipper Café

The best thing you can do is walk around and get lost. If you get lost while hungry, a good tip to go by is to check the crowd at the restaurant. 9 times out of 10 if a place is empty during peak hours like lunch and dinner it is not good (walk away), but if it is full and you notice more locals than tourists (this is where you want to be) stop there. I hope next time you’re in New Orleans you think of this blog post, and let me know if you visit any of these spots. As always a pleasure talking to y’all, feel free to comment, share, and/or like!

Travel Thursday: Part IV- Lucerne

Lucerne, Switzerland

My last stop, on this year’s Europe trip was Lucerne. Although my time there was short (one day), but saw so much. Everything I saw, and did that day in Switzerland will be memories that will last me a lifetime.

To be honest, my first few hours in Lucerne all I wanted to sight see was a pharmacy. I don’t know if it was what I ate the night before or motion sickness from the altitude, but after trying to use my Spanish as Italian and acting out my symptoms to locals, I got what I needed. European medicine works fast! Once I was feeling better, I was ready to get to see everything Switzerland had to offer. Which is a lot, and I really wish I would have had more time. Also, more chocolate.

Läderach  Chocolate

The best chocolate I have EVER had. I will order this chocolate to be delivered to me no matter how far it is, because you can do that. You can order the best chocolate in the world to come to you, thanks internet 😉 It might cost you, but it’s so worth it.

Nothing beats being on a boat, enjoying a piece of the best chocolate in the world (to me), and taking in the beautiful sceneries. Especially, when that boat is taking you to a train that will change everything.

Welcome to Rigi a breath taking place that will make you stop, and stare at this beautiful masterpiece called, the alps. I don’t know your beliefs (and no judgement), but to me I was in awe at the natural beauty God has created. Nothing has made me feel like a tiny piece to a giant puzzle, like I did here staring straight out at the clouds, and feeling them on my face. Seeing these giant mountains across from me made me feel like I was in a Bob Ross painting. It was and still (as I have a vivid memory of it) is one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. No words can describe. You just look out in silence. You don’t try to figure out life, you just savor the moment as you breathe in the fresh air. It feels like a dream.

The night life in Switzerland is so much fun! Especially, when chicken nuggets and fries cost $18 USD, but shots only cost $3 USD. Thats how you know, it’s going to be a great night. Next thing you know you’re on the floor in front of a flower shop trying to get a good picture of you and their flower pots for the gram. Just to realize the next day that they weren’t that pretty, and it was most likely not a flower shop. I wish I could tell you the name of the bars, but I don’t remember. As far as music goes, they had all of my early 2000 jams with new reggaeton jams. I would hear Ozuna songs and a lot of other Latin American artists.

I did not spend much time in Switzerland, but my time there was fun. I also had to say bye to a lot of great people I met along the way. Tonight I will be having a Q&A on my Instagram account in my stories at 9 PM central time. Feel free to ask me anything you want about my trips, and I will answer them. I might have some wine before then to get me ready. I can also share some more behind the scenes pics with y’all, on there. IG: @jenstylehou

Remember the Ala…ay ghost!

If you follow me on social media, you probably figured out I went on a road trip. The destination? San Antonio, Texas. A perfect little getaway from my normal routine, and the only time I had been was literally driving through getting off to see the river walk (at night) then was back on my way. Not that I didn’t want to see it, but simply never had the time.

Let me begin by saying how rich this city is in architecture, culture, and ghosts. I know, I know. Trust me, I didn’t think anything of it at first either. The building above is the beautiful Emily Morgan Hotel. My cousin (who went with me on this trip) and I both agreed on staying here for our girls trip. I chose it because it looks stunning from the outside, and the beautiful view. She chose it because she heard it was haunted and wanted to investigate. More on that later.

One of my favorite places that I went to on this trip was to el Mercado. It’s this awesome place in the Historic Market Square where you can have a nice cold Michelada while shopping for cute stuff straight from Mexico. I even bought a cute lotería shirt from one of the stands. If you have never been, I would totally recommend it.

Believe it or Not, there’s cool things to do like the museum of wax and Ripley’s Believe it or Not (where you can take a picture inside a giant tire). You can also ask a genie for three wishes, like I did. I’m still waiting, so in the mean time I’ll just keep working.

Back to talking about ghosts, at night we decided after some liquid courage to check out the hotel around the corner from the one we were staying (that is also known for being haunted, and I was too chicken to stay in) to see if we found any ghosts. Turns out I just admired how beautiful, and elegant it looks inside. I was a little upset that I chose the other hotel based on outside looks (lesson here). Anyways, my cousin had an app to see if ghosts would communicate with her, and nothing. We were back on our way to our hotel.

So here’s some very brief and broad history on the hotel we were staying in, it used to be a hospital. There’s also no 13th floor but there is a supposedly very haunted 14th floor. My cousin said let’s go check it out before going to bed to see if something happens, and again I had courage in me so I said “okay, but as long as we don’t look for any on our floor.”

“Hi this is Jenny, are the ghost busters available by any chance?” We get to the 13th floor (I mean 14th), and nothing. It was a bust so as we were walking through the door of the room 807 *my cousins app goes off* and it tells her entity present. ENTITY PRESENT!!! It also spoke through the white noise. I was like, I told you not to have it in the room. Honestly though, we had been everywhere with that thing on. I was so happy we hadn’t found anything, and everything changed after that.

The only reason I was able to stay asleep even with all the paranormal stuff going on was the fact I decided to stop by the bar for a glass of red wine before bed. The next morning was back to normal. Went walking around (a.k.a) buying cute things I collect wherever I go to bring home with me.

Sunday morning we went to mass at one of the oldest churches in Texas. It is beautiful and breath taking. Just what I needed after a night of little to no sleep. It was also a good way to start our morning before going home.

Haciendo Lo Mas

No. 1

No.2

No.3

If you would like to read this blog post in a different language this site has google translate.

Coachella🎡

It’s been a while since I’ve been on the grounds of Coachella Valley, but it will forever be in my memories. I can’t wait to one day be there again. If this is your first time going, or you are planning on going in the near future this post is for you. I’ll be sharing some of my must haves for Coachella. Let’s just say, I wasn’t completely ready on my first time in 2015, but I’m here to get YOU ready.

Tip #1– wear comfortable shoes. This one may seem like common sense, but you will be surprised how many people end up barefoot. Girls wearing sandals that bother them, and I get it we want to look cute. Just remember that it will get crowded (you will get stepped on). Guys, make sure your sneakers don’t rub or you won’t be so comfortable either.

Tip #2– The accessories I’m about to mention, are not only fashionable they are also convenient. Bring your favorite hat 🧢, sunglasses 🕶, and backpack/camelback 🎒. When you are finally at the front, seeing your favorite artist perform you want to fully enjoy it. You don’t want to have to squint, or put your hands over your eyes because the sun is in your face. You also don’t want to look back at the sea of people behind you, and have to give up your perfect spot to get water. Fill up your stylish backpack with a refillable water bottle, and you won’t have to worry about that.

Tip #3, dress in layers. It’s going to be blazing hot during the day, but could be freezing cold at night. Throw a light sweater/hoodie in your bag. Don’t have a bag? Tie it around your waist.

Tip #4- If you see pictures of people wearing bandanas around their necks, it’s not just to look cute. Although, you could really make them look good…it’s because there’s a lot of dust flying around and you don’t want to inhale all of that.

I hope these tips are useful to you all for your upcoming festival season, and have fun!! 💋✌️

American Hu$tle: Part I

IMG_9783

Hi all of you beautiful (smart, talented, creative, innovative) hustlers,

This post is dedicated to my high school freshman year self, and to all of you trying to keep your passions alive aside from our everyday work life. The jacket that I’m wearing in this photoshoot is very meaningful to me. I have had this jacket since my high school freshman year (which is a long time ago). I have parted ways with almost everything from then except this jacket, and for a very important reason.IMG_9784

As an ice breaker in my history class, the teacher asked us to stand up, say our names, and what we wanted to be when we graduated . I was wearing this jacket when I proudly stood up, and said “I want to be a fashion designer”. Only difference is then, I was wearing this jacket with a Billabong shirt, ripped jeans, and converse.

A lot of people throughout my youth persuaded me to take other routes. A more safe route, but fashion was always in my heart and it never left. Everything I would learn I would compare to something that dealt with that industry/business so I could retain the information in a way I understood it.

Fast forward to college, I was pursuing a career that was interesting, but not something that really made me feel passionate. I was getting nowhere close to deciding my major, and decided to go to a smaller community college. I am very blessed to have my supportive family, for not thinking I was crazy for leaving a big university to try to find myself.

Once at the community college I started taking random classes, and if it didn’t sound like it was calling my name, I wasn’t going to take it (except my basics, because you need those lol). That is how I stumbled upon, Theatre-Intro to Costume Design. The class that ignited that passion again. The one that reminded me of that girl standing in class saying she wanted to be a fashion designer. (To be continued…)

XOXO

Happy Valentines Day!! 💕

I know some of you are going to be very busy tonight. As for me, I will be at church reading, because this year Valentine’s Day is also Ash Wednesday. Whether you are going out, or staying in you deserve to feel like a queen/king (guys, you too deserve to feel loved) today. That is why I’m here for YOU/HOU. This isn’t just a fashion blog it’s a lifestyle blog. If you read my ‘about me’ then you know it all starts with Jen (me/an actual person), and I care about YOU. I care about my clients, and it helps me discover your sense of style.

I’m sure you were expecting another picture of me, but this is Lisa. She knew that she wanted to wear this beautiful top from New York and Company, but she needed help with putting an outfit together. As soon as I saw the top, I thought of Christian Dior one of the masters in delicate, and beautiful feminine designs. I also took Lisa’s personality to consideration, because she is not delicate. In fact, she is fierce.

That spirit of hers triggered the Yves Saint Laurent inspiration in me, and that is why I decided to add some black to add contrast. That is what makes this outfit, Parisian classic meets modern day chic. **Bonus tip: tucking in the top and adding a belt defines the waistline. Raising up the skirt to the waistline also makes legs appear longer. Try it and let me know how it works for you.

Now, I am giving you the same opportunity as Lisa. If you need help putting an outfit together whether it’s from scratch, or using something you already have comment on here/FB/instagram with what you would like to incorporate and I will give you some ideas.

_________________________________________________

Thank you Lisa for allowing me to style you for the Galentine’s Party. Also, big shout out to Jexse Studios for the Photography and Alchemy Salon Houston for the hair style for Lisa.
